  • A DISPLAY THAT ACTUALLY DIMS — Five brightness levels plus a true blackout mode. At the lowest setting the screen is dim enough to sleep next to, unlike most alarm clocks.
  • DUAL ALARMS, WEEKDAY MODES — Set a 6:40 weekday alarm and a 9:00 weekend alarm. Both store separately, both have independent snooze.
  • 5.5-INCH CURVED LCD — Wide viewing angles and 1.2-inch digits you can read without reaching for glasses. 12/24-hour and °C/°F switchable.
  • USB-C POWERED, BATTERY BACKED — Runs from any USB-C adapter; two AAA batteries keep time and alarms through a power cut.
  • NO PLASTIC SHINE — A soft-touch matte body in graphite or chalk white, with three physical buttons on top instead of a membrane panel.

The brief

Make a clock you can sleep next to

The first prototype had a blue LED panel. It looked great in photos and terrible at 2am. The final Pulse uses a curved VA LCD with a warm-white backlight and five dimming levels, so it disappears into a dark room instead of defining it.

Minimalist bedroom at night

Sleep first

Blackout mode, one long press

Press and hold the dim button and the display goes fully dark while alarms stay armed. Tap anywhere on top to bring the time back for five seconds. It is the feature customers mention most, and it costs us about four cents.

  • Five brightness levels
  • True blackout, alarms still on
  • Warm-white backlight, no blue cast

Dim enough to sleep next to

I’ve returned three alarm clocks because of the brightness. This one at level 1 is genuinely dim, and blackout mode is completely dark. Alarm is loud but not jarring. Buttons take a day to learn.

Solid, simple, does the job

No app, no Wi-Fi, no nonsense. Set the time in 20 seconds. The display is easy to read without glasses. Would be five stars with a slightly longer USB cable.

Good for a guest room

Bought two for guest rooms. They look more expensive than they are and the matte finish doesn’t collect fingerprints. Snooze button is on top and easy to find in the dark.

Weekday alarm is the feature I needed

I only wanted an alarm that doesn’t go off on Saturday. This does that without a phone. Battery backup worked during a two-hour outage last week.

Questions

Before you buy

The questions our support team answers most about this product.

Does the alarm work without power?

The clock keeps time and the alarm will sound on battery backup, but the display stays off and the alarm volume is reduced. It is designed as a power-cut backup, not a primary supply.

How dim is the lowest setting?

About 2 nits — roughly the brightness of a standby light. In a dark room you can see the time from 30cm without it lighting the wall.

Is the alarm loud enough for heavy sleepers?

It ramps from 65dB to 85dB over 30 seconds. That is comparable to a phone alarm at full volume, without the phone in the bedroom.
